F1 EMBEDDED SYSTEMS ENGINEER (GENEVA - SWITZERLAND)

Within the FIA Electronics Department, the F1 Embedded Systems Engineer will have a central role in all FIA F1 activities related to embedded electronic systems.


 The responsibilities will span from the analysis and homologation of embedded hardware and software for cars and power units to the instigation of strategies for future embedded electronic architectures, the definition of future regulations, and the support for our FIA team at the race track.


 The position will be based in our headquarters in Geneva and will involve some travel to the race track, suppliers, teams and power unit manufacturers facilities.


MISSIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Inspections of embedded systems


Coordinate and carry out extensive pre-season and in-season checks of on-car and power unit software and hardware to verify compliance with technical and sporting regulations

Liaise with the competitors and suppliers to gather all information necessary to support the inspections

Organise and report on software or hardware validation tests at the FIA or electronics suppliers facilities, team or power unit supplier factories, or at the race track

 


Homologation of embedded systems


Manage the process for car and power unit embedded software and hardware homologation in F1

Develop solutions to streamline the homologation process (submissions, analysis, reporting, change tracking)

Share solutions across championships for optimum use of the developed tools

 


Embedded software development


Develop software on multiple platforms to support the FIA monitoring activities in F1 and other championships

Develop and use HIL capabilities to assist with testing of FIA developed software

Liaise with the suppliers of FIA electronic units for the specification, development and operation of the hardware and software

Instigate strategies for the development of embedded software platforms, development and monitoring tools

 


System architecture development


Take a proactive role in the definition of the on-car electronic hardware and software architectures, including electronic systems managed by the FIA, the teams, PU manufacturers, F1 and other suppliers

Run the analysis of the interaction between embedded software modules

Coordinate the FMEA of embedded systems to promote the safe operation of all systems on the car

 


Support the evolution of the Technical and Sporting Regulations


Support the definition of regulations associated with electrical and electronic embedded systems

Attend regulations working groups when required

 


Race and test support


Support F1 races and tests when required

Develop tools to automate the verification of all embedded software versions running on the cars

Analyse on and off-car data for compliance with sporting and technical regulations

Report checks carried out and results to the FIA Technical Delegate



PROFILE:


Bachelor or Master’s degree or equivalent expert level in embedded software or electronic engineering

Excellent understanding of real-time embedded electronic hardware and software systems and complex multi-system architectures

Strong proven experience in embedded software development, in multiple high and low level languages, including assembler, C, Simulink

Knowledge of microcontroller architectures and memory technologies

Design experience of Motorsport (F1 preferably) embedded electronics, software and control systems for chassis and powertrain would be an advantage

Use of data analysis and calibration software

Experience in reviewing embedded electronic designs and embedded software

A logical thinker with a calm demeanour and positive attitude, excellent organisation and communication skills

You have demonstrated an ability to learn continuously, work autonomously, and make decisions

Ability to work in the strictest confidence

Native or fluent English speaker ; French optional
