Your role


Working closely with the Technology Director and Insight and Analytics Director, the Data Engineer will be responsible for implementing big data technologies across the business. They will also be tasked with the development and implementation of scripts for database maintenance, monitoring, performance tuning etc.


 


Supported by the wider Technology team, they will design and lead on datasets relating to social media, telemetry, broadcast audiences, digital media, CRM and digital products as well as more broad cultural and situational data pertinent to the development of Formula E.


 


The focus of this role is on developing data infrastructure through which to analyse the development of Formula E, working on an end-to-end data solution – from ingesting data and APIs, IOT sensors and other high volume sources, cleaning, validating and storing data, aggregating information and providing a platform for analysis by working on the data lake. You will facilitate the Insight and Analytics teams in creating predictive models and aiming to discover patterns in data.



What you will be doing


Working in an SDLF framework to build a data lake solution that will scale to service teams across the business by:


Ingesting and cataloguing data

Building ELT pipelines

Managing data quality and the effective running of scripts

Manage development, test and production environments

Perform data transformations to allow search, indexing and relational discovery

Develop process improvement opportunities

Build scalable data pipelines and dashboards to enable business KPI tracking

Develop tools to help the data collection process


What we're looking for and what you will need


You will be required to acquire data from multiple sources and databases as well as maintaining existing data flows.


 


We are looking for someone with commercial experience in the Sports, Media or Tech industries, specifically:


Developing data lakes and big data systems

Using multiple programming and scripting languages

Familiarity with statistical modelling, machine learning and data mining

Establishing and calling social media api’s

Working with pii data and compliance needs

Designing and implementing data sets for business intelligence and dashboarding and solution architecture

 


We use a variety of programming languages and believe in having the right tools for each job. Having a willingness to learn quickly and adapt to new situations are important to us. Our current technology stack requires the following skillsets which would be required at the start.


 


Python

AWS Serverless Data Lake Framework (SDLF) – (including Lamda, Steps, Glue, Athena)

SQL
