At Haas F1 Team, we are looking to grow our Aerodynamics department. This is a fast-paced and challenging opportunity to make a substantial impact within a small team. We are looking for a team-oriented, experienced Aero Performance Engineer. Applicants should possess fluent English skills. Italian language skills are not required but are desirable. All CV’s must be submitted in English.
Reports to the Aero Performance Team Leader, this individual will travel to Race and Test Events on behalf of the Aerodynamics Department. The role is based in Italy, Maranello (Modena) and involves a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
Thorough reporting of all track events.
Department track/tunnel/CFD correlation activities.
Analysis of aerodynamic data which influences car setup.
Contribution to maintenance of vehicle heat management and performance/reliability target data.
Use of company and third-party simulation tools, and an ability to help develop further tools to support Aero Performance Group work.
Rig testing for relevant subsystem development (Brake/Rad Rigs, etc.).
Follows and enforces safety regulations in all venues.
Other duties as assigned by the Aero Performance Team Leader.
Education and Work Experience:
BS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering required.
At least 3-5 years of experience in Aero Performance related activities in a high technology motorsport environment (F1 – LMP1 are preferable).
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficient computer skills, including programming capability with a high level language like Python or Matlab.
Strong data analysis experience required ideally within the Aero Performance environment, broad understanding of race car aero performance (F1 - LMP1 are preferable).
Understanding of aerodynamics and fluid analysis.
Proven experience with 3D CAD software.
Knowledge of structural analysis is beneficial.
Understanding of vehicle dynamics is beneficial.
Ability to travel on a regular basis.
Equipment and Applications:
Data Acquisition software experience, MAT ATLAS is beneficial. Working experience using MATLAB/Simulink and Python is beneficial. Microsoft Office and engineering packages including but not limited to, wind tunnel, basic hand tools, fabrication tools.
Work Environment Physical Demands:
Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and have manual dexterity. May require repeated bending and squatting. Able to handle stressful situations. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment may include race cars, 7-Post equipment, heavy machinery, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids.
